How to be successful?

2/27/2018

Most people dream about living a life that’s extraordinary. Most people dream that their life will be one of impact and not one that goes by unnoticed. And honestly, most of us have days we feel like a total failure, because we just don’t seem to manage living this type of life.

Just last week I had a day like that. I just didn’t seem to reach the goals I set out for myself. This was the voice of the enemy, for I am not a failure and neither are you, beautiful God-creation reading this post! This just inspired me to revisit success; its Godly definition and what it takes to get there.

Success defined

According to Google success is “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” Romans 8:28 teaches that God has called us according to a purpose and that because we strive towards this purpose through love, He makes things work for the good for us. What an amazing promise to hold on to?

True success is not reaching human goals, but walking in the purpose God has for your life. His purpose is not about what He intended you to do, but who He intended you to be – His!

Being successful on God’s terms is striving to be more like Him, to know His will and live from a place of intimacy with Him.
"True success is not reaching human goals, but walking in the purpose God has for your life."

So how does one apply this Godly view of success in everyday life? Here are a few things you should know:

3 Ways to be successful:

1.
Choose to have joy (Life doesn’t owe it to you!)

My mom often says “life doesn’t owe you anything”. No one reaches success by waiting for it to come to them. If you have hopes and dreams; get up and make something of it. Your joy, however, should not be based on whether or not your dreams succeed. Joy is a choice you can make in the here and now. Don’t live for one day, but choose to be happy in your current reality.
I’m reminded of this verse in James 1:2 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds...”
"...Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” - Nehemiah 8:10
"Even if you take no risks at all; you’re taking the risk of missing out on many great adventures. "

. Don’t run away from risks and failures

Even if you take no risks at all; you’re taking the risk of missing out on many great adventures. You can never be sure things will work out the way you want them to; in fact; you can almost be sure they won’t. This should only influence your reaction to the outcome and not whether or not you should take the risk.
I’m of meaning that God designed us to take risks. Even to have faith is a risk. We’ve been given a life in abundance (John 10:10), but in order to fully live, we are compelled to step out in faith. Decide to rise above the fears that are holding you back and have faith that God is sovereign in every circumstance.

3. Submit your life to Him

The ultimate secret to life is knowing that your life story is part of a greater story, told by a great Story Teller.

Life’s success should be measured in everlasting significance.

The focus of your life should be establishing God’s Kingdom (Matt 6:33); not trying to live up to the standards of the world.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
– Proverbs 16:9
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Go and live a life of significance. Go live a life addressing God’s truth in every situation. Be who He intended you to be. Choose to be content. Take a step of faith and rest in the assurance that God is in control.
