A story for single girls...

God used this little metaphor-story to show me what it really means to be single. This story helped me to embrace my current season. I hope that it will do the same for you...

Single and waiting

There was this girl on a train station. She was waiting for the train to come, but seemed to wait for a really long time. People would show up on the station, get on a train and off they go.

For her, this was not the case. When a train would enter the station, she would jump up and be ready to go, only to watch the train pass straight trough without even stopping.

God’s perspective

As she was sitting on the little station bench, she noticed a man sitting next to her. This man was Jesus.

Jesus was sitting there to wait with her. She was never waiting alone. He was waiting for the very same train, but she paid Him no attention. She was too anxious about when the train would come. She would check the time, walk up and down the station and go and check the timetable again and again.

Whenever a train would enter the station she would jump up off the bench, grab her suitcase and run towards it. Sometimes she would even get on the train and select a seat.

Usually then, she would feel awkward about Jesus not joining her. She knew He was waiting for the same train she was, so she couldn’t understand why He would just keep sitting on the bench, oh so patiently.

Very disappointed she would make her way back to the bench where Jesus was. Jesus remained calm and patient. He knew the train would come; she just had to trust Him.

The truth about waiting

She was wasting so much time thinking and wondering and moaning about when her train would come; she was missing an opportunity to just sit next to Jesus on the bench. She was missing out on an opportunity to be with Him and talk to Him and laugh with Him. She saw the waiting as useless time and the train arriving as a climactic moment in history. Jesus saw it all the same; it was time they spent together.

"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
- Psalm 27:14

"Maybe His intention for this time is really just to be with you."

What does it have to do with singleness?

Singleness is really a waste of time if all you’re going to do with it is hope and pray and think about a relationship. Why not sit back on the bench and have a chat with Jesus? Maybe His intention for this time is really just to be with you.

He wants to give you an opportunity to get to know Him better. He wants you to share your heart with Him. He wants to bring you healing. He wants to see you grow until you’re ready for a relationship.

Trust Him; He really does have your best interests at heart.
