To be still is a choice, not enjoying a flat white and a Chelsea bun in the corner of a small café. It's not going for a walk next to the ocean. Being still is not waking up before everyone else to spend time in the Word.
Don’t get me wrong; these things lessen distraction and help us keep our eyes on Jesus. But true “stillness” is just that: keeping your eyes on Jesus.
I love the lyrics of this hymn:
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus
I originally wrote this post about a year ago (22 August 2020); the day Charl asked me to be his girlfriend!
It doesn’t, however, have anything to do with Charl or earthly romance, but Jesus and becoming a heavenly bride. Yet I can share this now as a celebration of a beautiful earthly romance, being a mere glimpse of the heavenly. Somehow I never got around to posting it; so here goes: Last night I met a little girl and something in my heart was ignited by her, to the extent where I’m currently laptop-in-bed at 4 am on a Saturday. I was reminded why I’m passionate about weddings and brides; why I’m currently crazy enough to learn Hebrew and what this blog was about in the first place. Her name is Zoë; which means “life”. And what an invitation to abundant life she is (John 10:10)?
The content of this post is actually similar to a journal entry and not so similar to what I would typically write on here. But this won’t be the first time a journal entry becomes a blog post – so here we go.
If you read If it’s not for the Kingdom – then what’s it for? (Part 1), you might be relieved to hear this is not another story about going for a walk or a run. (Apparently that’s something I write about a lot). Actually this post is about what I’ve learnt in the last few weeks, so unless it involves taking a walk around the house, it would be very unlikely.
This post is also not another one about singleness, although it most certainly applies to it. This post is about what it means to seek the Kingdom first (Matthew 6:25-34) – before our own dreams and desires, and even before our needs.
So here’s a fun fact about my walk with God:
He speaks to me in themes.
Since last year in October He has been speaking to me from Matthew 6. What is really spectacular is how relevant it is amidst all the uncertainty we are currently facing. So that’s why I’m sharing it with you.
But before we get to that; let me share some of the story. |
